Evra believes United will win title

Unread postby Joe » 15 Jan 2012 19:26

Evra, made captain in the absence of Vidic, believes (according to interview with MUTV) United's injured players will make a the difference when they return.

"Everyone's coming back and in great form, we still have some injuries but I think when everyone is back fit, it will give us the strength to win the title.

We have to keep talking about Manchester United. The most important thing was winning today. After that, it doesn't matter if they [City] win, lose or draw.

We just need to have a rest and focus on the next game. I think people talk a lot about City, but we just need to be focused on what we do and how we play, and I think we're going to win the league."

IMO his form this season was disappointing and he should concentrate fully on his performances rather than expecting the players that will come back to make the difference.

Exactly. I think he believes that his own performances cannot be questioned now that he is stand in captain. He must be a big big character in the dressing room because I do not see what qualities he brings as captain on the pitch. The majority of the time Evra has played this season, he has been caught out of position when opposition teams are attacking and has been at fault for more than a fair share of goals. Fantastic at going forward, and his link up play with whoever is on the left side with him, whether it be Nani, Young or Park, is brilliant. If he was just abit more switched on defensively, he would be the best left back around.

He seems very confident that United will come out on top. But City will put up a very strong fight IMO. No Champions League, no F.A Cup and they could comfortably beat anybody in the Europa League. They will be fully concentrated on the Premiership. They are having abit of a blip at the minute but when they get the Toure brothers back from the African Cup of Nations, Kompany back from suspension and Balotelli fit again, they will back to their best. And who knows, they could even strengthen their squad in this transfer window. It will either go down to the wire, or City will run away with it. I really cannot see us running away with it to be honest.

The problem with this season is that there is no real title contender. Anybody can win it. City seem to have some edge but they seem to be too dependent on David Silva. And he isn't going to be in top form all season. And Scholes is back, he should be named captain.

I would love to see Scholes as captain. I think Ferguson offered him the role when Keane left and Scholes didn't want the extra responsibility of being full-time captain.

I guess he is a bit scared of the role because he cannot see himself being the type of vocal captain. Bu there are some great captains that do not shout, do not talk to other players too much. They lead by example and that has sometimes even more motivating than shouting.

Yep totally agree with you on that one. Scholes has never been a guy who wants to draw more attention to himself, thats probably why he never took the role. We have all read the stories that Paul is the perfect footballer that any manager would want at their club, a proper professional. In early for training, trains well, goes home and performs well in the next match. No mad antics, no stories, never in the public eye for anything other than what he does on the pitch. He is a brilliant role model, a perfect captain IMO.

Lets see what happens agains Arsenal. Even Evra will have chance to shine against Djorou (I guess he is now playing the right back as Sagna is injured). And it will be interesting to see both Scholes and Henry playing.
