Lindegaard wants to be first choice

Unread postby Joe » 14 Aug 2011 11:14

According to interview published by Daily Star, Anders Lindegaard reckons he has the right to be considered as first choice and start ahead of David De Gea at West Brom:

“I’m proud to have created a debate over the goalkeeper position, and over what journalists thought was a certainty David would play,
I knew this pre-season was going to be the most important in my Manchester United career and going on the trip to America was the real test.
I felt I did well and I feel my pre-season has been close to perfection. I’m very optimistic.
But if the manager decides on De Gea, it’s not going to be the end of the world for me.
I will be very disappointed and any athlete in a similar position would be the same. But I will always respect his decision.”

Lindegaard also said it is not that easy to become accepted member of Manchester United squad:

"It’s only over the last month that I have felt accepted, and now I feel I am finding my place in the group.
Up until now, it has been important to think before speaking, and that has been hard because I’m a very spontaneous person.”

Lindegaard is a good Goalie but he will have to prove it.

He's the best number 2 in the League. I don't think he will ever be the established Manchester United number 1, De Gea is the future, no question about it, and I for one am more than happy with that.

I actually beg to differ. De Gea might be the future but for some reason I feel more secure with Lindegaard as our goalkeeper right now. He seems to have more command in his box and is more outspoken. Then again De Gea is very tactical and actually helps us with our passing.

yes, Lindegaard has some good experience backing him..
De Gea still needs more games to get to a mark which Lindegaard has already set.

Really? What big games has Lindegaard played really though? Whos to say he would deal with the pressure of being United's no1 better than De Gea? If Ferguson thought Anders was going to be more solid for the team after our 6-1 hammering by City then he would be the number one but he still has faith in the young spaniard. If Ferguson believes in him then I do aswell. In a way he has to play him, he has got his confidence back after a shaky start, if Sir Alex dropped him now, it would be gone completely.

Looks like you didn't finish reading my post. I said I feel better with Lindegaard right now. No doubt that we wouldn't have splashed the cash for a young goalkeeper if he wouldn't have been playing. We are waiting for De Gea to develop and ease in the league but right now Lindegaard is more stable to call upon.

Yep, I totally agree with this comment.

I did finish reading it, and I agree with your thoughts on the qualities of both keepers. Looks like you didn't quite read my post properly either, the point I'm making, is that how can you think Lindegaard is more stable right now when he is not tested?

I don't know, how about play De Gea one game and Lindegaard the other? Since they're both almost equally good. However I would feel better with De Gea in Europa due to his experience (and the trophy) with Atletico.
